It is supposed that Ben Heh Heh is a son of converts. There is an explanation which suggests Heh heh refers to the first “converts” Abraham and Sarah for whom God added a “Heh ה” to their names. A sentence in the Mishnah (M. Avot) is attributed to Ben Heh Heh (and another to Ben Bag Bag.) Both sentences are attributed to Hillel in Avot de R Natan. There is an old tradition that Ben Heh Heh was a disciple of Hillel and that Heh Heh and Bag Bag may have been the same person. (This tradition is mentioned in Zacuto's Yuḥusin).
